On Saturday April 16, 2011, the Youth Center creACTive Kavadarci with help from their volunteers, Justyna from Poland and Loes from the Netherlands with help from Maggie Davis a Peace Corps volunteer and support from the sports hall Jasmin in donating the sports field; implemented an event marking the International Earth Day. The event was carried out with students from seventh and eighth grade, as well as from elementary schools in our city.
Prior to the event, volunteers from creACTive made educational workshops in the biology classes in every school discussing the importance of the environment. In these workshops and the event we presented the opportunities and ways each of us can help the Earth, how our planet is important, and through recycling, carefully removing waste and planting of plants etc. We can make this planet a better place.
On this day, students were divided in teams from every school. Every 30 minutes they changed positions, so that at the end each team has visited and participated in each of the five stations (cleaning the environment, planting flowers and painting pots, Tie Dye (recycling old T-shirts), and games and sports. This young people had the wonderful opportunity to socialize, have fun, to learn something and of course to help the planet.
The President of the city council of Kavadarci, Mr. lijah Trencev, and council members were present at the event to help symbolize the project.
