On March 21st 2011 creACTive Kavadarci recognized the International Day against Racism. It was a day where people from all over the planet raised their voice against racism. Thousands of people from the European Union celebrated together and promoted equal rights and diversity in Europe. Kavadarci along with our partners across the globe acknowledged this day in order to raise awareness among our citizens and rise against racism.
On this occasion, our organization creACTive, along with our partner organizations of our city: Zona, EKROK, Red Cross, Culture House of the Parliament and all schools of the city, prepared a great event the weekend of March 18th, 2011. Also at the Youth Center creACTive on Friday the 18th of March we held an open debate “Are we are all racists?”. At this debate we discussed the problems facing our community regarding racism. We discussed the factors, causes and consequences of racism. The debate was followed by short videos, photos, articles etc.
On Saturday the 19th of March the event began at 2:00pm with a parade down the main street of Kavadarci which lead to the center square of town. We met briefly in the square and thanked those who participated. We moved back to the youth center where we prepared an art exhibit themed “What’s wrong with Racism”. The event continued at 7:00pm at the house of culture of Kavadarci. There, we first introduced the event with a short video presentation and speech from the President of the city council. We followed the video with a play depicting how racism influences society. The play was followed by a break dancing performance from the members of EKROK. The break dancing group was followed by the local Jazz band which was followed by the Smoke Shakers, a popular local band. This ended the event against Racism. We would like to thanks all those who participated and supported this great event.
